“uint asia” is Asian jazz unit consists of three Japanese distinguished musicians who have been expanding their activities in various musical genres including jazz, fusion, pops and etc., Isao Miyoshi (Guitar) as leader, Hiroyuki Noritake (Drums), Shigeki Ippon (Bass), and a predominant Thai saxophone player, Koh Mr. Saxman and promising pianist from Malaysia, Tay Cher Siang.
To aim for “Create a new type of music (jazz) by prominent jazz musicians who have been active in Asia”, this unit was formed newly at an opportunity of southeast Asia tour (in Singapore, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia and Thailand) which was held as main activity by the Japan Foundation for one month from the middle of October in 2008.
In this southeast Asia tour, they accomplished evolution of the music every time they performed and deepen friendship among musicians, and they deployed the concerts in a full of originality and life. They had the highest praise from persons concerns in music and the media in each place. unit asia released "UNIT ASIA Debut! from Southeast Asia Tour 2008" recorded live in this tour.
In October of 2010, new album "unit asia - Smile for You" which is their practical 1st album was released. Based on mutual faith and passion to unit asia, with distinguished performance abilities and miscellaneous sensitivities and ideas, they incorporated diverse musical elements such as rock and pop based on jazz into their various original tunes, create unique music in a full of scale that transcends the framework of music, nation and culture.
In November of 2010, in hopes of further step and new encounter, as their 2nd overseas concert tour, "Middle East and India Tour 2010" (organized by the Japan Foundation) was held in Cairo (Egypt), Ankara (Turkey), Chennnai and Kolkata (India). They expanded the stages in a full of energy in each city and was received enthusiastic responses.
“uint asia” which was formed by five outstanding Asian musicians will create jazz in the 21st century that evolved more through their ambitious activity in future. We expect the activity of this unit asia will present a big hope and future to many musicians who aim to create new jazz as well as expand the possibility of jazz in Asia.
